Spree Books 2008/09

Oldest and only pupils have been issued with a Spree Book today.  This is a great fundraiser for our school and a savings guide to participating businesses in Aberdeen.  Families only need to use one or two vouchers to save more than the cover price.  This year the Spree Card is inside the book and does not need to be activated, only a signature on the back of the card is required.  If you wish more than one book for family and friends, please give your order to your child.  Payments and unsold books need to be handed into school by w/b 9th September.

Thank you for supporting Culter School.

School Closure Wednesday 20th August

Members of Unite, GMB and UNISON will be taking strike action on Wednesday 20th August, 2008.  Staff groups which may be involved include Janitors, Cleaners, Kitchen Staff, Pupil Support Assistants and Office Staff.

The particular circumstances relating to Culter School are that there will be no staff working in the office, kitchen or cleaning the school.  Most Pupil Support Staff will not be in school.

Consequently I regret to inform you that the school will be closed to all pupils tomorrow (Wednesday).

I am aware of the disruption and inconvenience this action will cause to families however it is not possible to operate safely with the number of support staff who will be in school on Wednesday and therefore I have no alternative but to close the school.

I look forward to welcoming the children back on Thursday at 9.00am as usual.

Want to keep the kids busy over the summer and learn something new?

Bagpipes

As part of the 2008 Aberdeen Arts Carnival, Pipe Major Ian Dallas of 2008 Scottish and British Bucksburn & District Novice Juvenile Pipe Band will be holding a week long workshop for Chanter and Great Highland Bagpipes.  this workshop is aimed at 8 -14 year olds, with no prior experience necessary - a great chance for budding musicians to try out our Scottish National Instument, Bagpipes.  Tutor for Aberdeen City Schools, Ian has a wealth of experience, dealing with Pipers from a young age.  Classes will be held from Monday 4th - Friday 8th August from 2.00 - 4.00 pm.

Drumming

Local Drumming Tutor and Lead Drummer of Grampian Police Pipe Band, Nick Gibson, will be holding a week long workshop at Aberdeen Arts Centre.  Young drummers (8-14years) will be shown how the basic rudiments of drumming are built into many different forms of drumming from traditional Pipe Band through to Orchestra to Rock and Jazz.

Taking place on Monday 4th-Friday 8th August, from 10am - 12pm, this is a sure fire way to keep the kids occupied through the holidays.

All workshops will take place within Aberdeen Arts Centre, just off the city’s King Street.  For further information about the many classes offered during the weeks long Aberdeen Arts Centre, log onto the Arts Centre Website at www.aberdeenartscentre.org.uk or call 01224 635208.
