‘Culter P6’s win Consolation Cup’
On Saturday 24th May, Culter’s p6’s played Stoneywood in the Consolation Cup Final. Culter went ahead early in the first half after a great through ball from Callum Buchan found Jack Yule who sent a powerful shot low into the corner of the net. Stoneywood equalised after some good football when their left winger took a high dipping shot over Callum Henderson’s head. Five minutes later they went ahead after a low cross into the box was budled over the line.
Five minutes after half time, Jack Yule received the ball on the edge of the box, beat three defenders and sent a rocket shot into the roof of the net. From then on it was one sided with Culter playing all of the football. Only an outstanding display from the Stoneywood goalkeeper kept the scores level.
The game then went into extra time and with only three minutes remaining, Stoneywood took the lead from a long ball that Culter failed to clear. The Stoneywood parents were on the pitch celebrating as they thought it was all over.
Almost straight from the restart and after some great play from the determined Kieran Fowler, he took a shot which the keeper could only push into the path of Adam Fisher who calmly slotted the ball home.
The game then went into penalties. Culter managed to score all of theirs but Stoneywood had missed their 3rd one. They needed to score the next to stay in the game. When Callum Henderson pulled off a great save Culter had won the cup.
All the boys would like to thank Lachie McKinnon and John Craig for all their help throughout the season.
